Battle to contain oil spill from wrecked Japanese bulker. A battle is on to contain oil spilled from NYK-chartered bulker Crimson Polaris that broke in two off Japan on Thursday morning.
The 39,910 gt, 2008-built, woodchip carrier with 1,680 tonnes of fuel onboard ran aground on 11 August and split in two a day later.
Salvors are now battling to contain an unknown amount of oil that has been spilled from the wreck. It lies about 4 km offshore the coast of Hachinohi.
