Location
At the entrance to the Mediterranean in position Lat 36 Degs 08 Mins N Long 5 Degs 22 Mins W, Admiralty chart No. 1448.

Port Health documentation required
Three Crewlists/Passenger lists, Maritime Declaration of Health, Ship's Register, Loadline certificate, De-ratting Certificate, Crew Agreement, Certificate of Insurance concerning Civil Liability for Oil Pollution. All these documents required be presented unless vessel is granted Radio Pratique. If Pratique is not being granted by radio, the Boarding Officer will then board off the Detached Mole if the vessel is just performing a slow steaming operation, or alternatively will board when anchored or alongside.
Customs formalities
The Customs Department is responsible for the control of all imports/exports by sea, land or air. It also has the responsibility for the clearance of passengers and their baggage on arrival.
Any ship arriving at Gibraltar with cargo (except to the anchorage), must, within 24 hours, provide a report of the ship and the cargo by delivering to Customs an inward manifest of goods on board duly signed by the Master or Agent, as the case may be. The Master must also answer all questions which may be put to him by the Customs Officer relating to the ship, her crew, cargo, passengers, stores and voyage. In the case of ships of over 1,000 net tons, the manifest required shall only relate to such cargo to be landed or transshipped in Gibraltar, however, the Master must still answer any questions and produce a manifest of goods in transit if this is required by the Customs Officer.
Pilotage
Compulsory on arrival for anchoring, berthing, unberthing and shifting anchorage. Vessels at anchor may leave without Pilot. Pilot boards 1 mile west of Europa Point.
Anchorage
Vessels can anchor in the bay in depths of up to 90 metres. Vessels utilizing the Eastern anchorage (where no Pilotage is required) must report, when entering the anchorage and once anchored must give the vessel's position, to Gibraltar Port Control which maintains VHF watch on Channels 16 and 12. Vessels are not liable to any Port dues and charges whilst at the Eastern anchorage ground. In the event of congestion within the Port anchorage ground, vessels might be requested to proceed to the Eastern side to await it's turn at the port.
Berthing facilities
Cruise Liners and vessels calling for bunkers or water can be berthed at both sides of the North Mole at the Western Arm, where a state-of-the-art cruise liner terminal is situated. Outer side of this mole is 490M long with a draft of up to 9.6M. The inner side of this mole is 450M and maximum draft is 8M. Ships of deeper draft can be accommodated according to tide. Vessels calling for lay-up or repairs can be berthed at the Detached Mole. There are also two berths of 1OOM in length available to vessels discharging general cargoes.
